Mastering processes. Advancing materials.
You rarely see where BUSSLIST is involved. But everyone uses the products that result from our work almost every day.
Industries and markets that rely on BUSSLIST processes
Whether high-performance polymers for electric mobility, cellulose fibers for sustainable textiles, or powder coatings for industrial surfaces—the materials that shape our world are created through processes that demand the highest precision. With three complementary technology platforms, the BUSSLIST Group is at home in over ten industries. Not as a peripheral supplier, but as a key player at the heart of the value chain.
PolymersThe material that holds our world together
Polymers are everywhere: in vehicle interiors, medical packaging, electronic enclosures, flooring, and food packaging films. But before a plastic can fulfill these functions, it must be compounded, modified, or processed using reactive methods—often under extreme conditions involving high temperatures, shear forces, and the need for homogeneity.
The BUSSLIST Group covers an exceptionally broad spectrum in the polymer industry: from PVC and engineering plastics to high-performance polymers such as PEEK and fluoropolymers, as well as bioplastics and superabsorbent polymers. For decades, the BUSS Co-Kneader has been the core technology for demanding compounding processes—whether fiber-reinforced, highly filled, or reactive. For high-viscosity processes in the concentrated phase, such as in the production of superabsorbents or adhesives, the LIST Kneader Reactor is used.
Two technologies, one market—and a process depth ranging from standard PVC to the most demanding specialty polymers.
ChemistryWhere processes are as unique as the substances themselves
Fine and specialty chemicals, additives, agrochemicals, waste recycling—the chemical industry demands processes capable of handling extremely high viscosity, aggressive media, and the most stringent purity requirements. Standard machines quickly reach their limits in these applications.
The LIST Kneader Reactor is right at home in this industry. Its ability to operate in the concentrated phase—solvent-free, self-cleaning, under vacuum—makes it the preferred technology for drying, reaction, and devolatilization processes in specialty chemicals. From UV stabilizers and cellulose derivatives to the recovery of valuable substances from industrial residues.
Carbon paste The key to aluminum production
Without carbon anode paste, there would be no aluminum. And without aluminum, our modern world would be almost unimaginable. Whether in cars, airplanes, buildings, power lines, or packaging: aluminum is lightweight, durable, and versatile. It is a key material for mobility, energy supply, and everyday life.
Aluminum is produced in an electrolysis process that uses special anodes. For decades, BUSS Co-Kneaders have been recognized as a proven technology for anode paste production. They mix petroleum coke, liquid pitch, and other components in a particularly homogeneous manner and at precisely controlled temperatures to produce anode pastes with optimal properties.
ElastomersMaterials that combine elasticity with high resilience
Tires, seals, hoses, shock absorbers, shoe soles—we encounter elastomers every day, often without even realizing it. Their production requires processes that transform natural rubber, synthetic rubber, or thermoplastic elastomers into homogeneous compounds by blending them with fillers, plasticizers, and additives—all while maintaining precise temperature control and gentle shear.
The BUSSLIST Group brings two technologies to the elastomer industry: The BUSS Co-Kneader compounds elastomer compounds and thermoplastic elastomers with uniform filler distribution at low shear forces. The LIST Kneader Reactor complements the process chain in the actual production of synthetic rubbers—for example, in the devolatilization of solvent-cured rubbers, where its DDT technology replaces energy-intensive steam stripping.
From raw polymer to finished compound—two technology platforms that ideally complement each other in elastomer processing.
EnergyMaterials for the infrastructure of today and tomorrow
Cables, batteries, power sources—our energy-driven world needs materials that perform reliably under extreme conditions. Whether high-voltage cables, semiconductive layers, or battery electrode compounds, the demands for purity, degree of cross-linking, and process stability are higher in this industry than in almost any other.
BUSS Co-Kneaders have been established in the cable and wire industry for decades—for PVC cable compounds, HFFR, silane-crosslinkable polyethylenes (Sioplas), XLPE, and semiconductive layers. In the field of battery pastes, they deliver the process precision required by modern electrode pastes. The LIST KneaderReactor Technology is used in energy production: in processes for the nuclear industry and the torrefaction of biomass.
Coatings From formulation to the finished surface
Whether it’s powder coating on a car wheel, toner in a printer, or pigments in exterior paint—coatings determine how surfaces look, are protected, and function. Their production requires precise processing and compounding of formulations, followed by controlled cooling and solidification.
In almost no other market do the three BUSSLIST technologies integrate so seamlessly. The LIST Kneading Reactor processes inks, pigments, dyes, and friction linings in high-viscosity, solvent-free processes. The BUSS Co-Kneader compounds powder coating and toner formulations with the precision required for consistent particle quality. And BBA cooling systems handle the crucial downstream step: the continuous cooling and solidification of the hot melt into a product ready for flaking.
Three technologies, one continuous process chain—this is where the synergy of the BUSSLIST Group becomes particularly tangible.
Life Sciences & FoodBoth the pharmaceutical and food industries use our technologies
As diverse as food and pharmaceutical ingredients may be, they share the same requirements: the highest purity, complete traceability, and processes that meet regulatory standards.
In the food industry, BUSS Co-Kneaders process gum base and chewy candies, while LIST Kneader Reactors homogenize chocolate mixtures, modified starches, and sugar substitutes in the concentrated phase—where consistency and flavor profile are formed during the process.
In the pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors, even stricter standards apply. Here, BBA Cooling Technology provides GMP-compliant cooling systems—using FDA-approved materials and the highest hygiene standards for the controlled solidification of active pharmaceutical ingredients.
Electronics & Advanced MaterialsWhere purity isn’t an option, but a requirement
The electronics industry operates with tolerances that would be unthinkable in other sectors. Semiconductive compounds for cable insulation and epoxy molding compounds (EMC) for chip encapsulation require processes with minimal contamination, precise temperature control, and reproducible quality in every cycle. Even deviations in the micrometer range can determine whether a product functions properly or is rejected.
BUSS Co-Kneaders and LIST Kneader Reactors deliver exactly the process control these materials demand. The Co-Kneader compounds EMC and semiconductor compounds with the uniform shear and temperature precision that highly sensitive formulations require. The Kneader Reactor is used where high-viscosity feedstocks must be processed in the concentrated phase—with the flexible residence time distribution that ensures consistent material properties.
FibersThe technology behind the textiles of tomorrow
Lyocell, aramid, carbon fibers—behind the high-performance fibers that make sustainable textiles, bulletproof vests, and lightweight structures possible lie processes that are virtually unforgiving. Producing a bubble-free, high-viscosity spinning solution requires energy input and temperature control that conventional machines cannot provide.
The LIST Kneader Reactor is the key technology for this industry. For Lyocell, it dissolves cellulose in NMMO solvent—without hotspots, with precise temperature control, and with the ability to process 100% alternative biomass such as hemp or recycled textiles. For aramid and carbon fibers, it delivers the uniform spinning solution that determines the mechanical properties of the finished fiber.
From biomass to fiber—LIST Kneader Reactors stand at the beginning of a value chain that is transforming entire industries.
Circular Economy & RecyclingValuable materials deserve a second life
Polymer, rubber, and textile waste are not end products—they are raw materials for creating new value. Provided, of course, that the recycling process can overcome certain challenges: contaminated feedstocks, varying compositions, high viscosities, and the need for output quality that can compete with virgin materials.
LIST Kneader Reactors enable physical, chemical, and pyrolytic recycling in the concentrated phase—from solvent-based dissolution through bulk depolymerization to the continuous pyrolysis of polyolefin waste. With recovery rates exceeding 90% and residual solvent levels below 300 ppm.
